The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is located north of the Equator in the western Pacific Ocean and consists of 607 islands spread across an area of 3,000,000 km² within the Caroline Islands. The FSM comprises four states —Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae—each with considerable autonomy and unique geography, ecology, language, and culture.
Its capital, Palikir, is located on Pohnpei, with a population of approximately 115,000.
The FSM boasts a rich history with vibrant traditions. Many residents live in towns on the main islands, while others reside in villages, maintaining subsistence lifestyles such as fishing and agriculture. The FSM uniquely blends its traditional chiefly system with modern governance.
The people are renowned for their friendliness and hospitality.
Colonization spans over 2,000 years, including notable landmarks like Nan Madol Ruins (A.D. 1000-1500) and Lelu Ruins (A.D. 1300-1800).
