Yap State includes the main island and 138 outer islands, 22 of which are inhabited. Yap is the most traditional state in the FSM, famous for preserving its cultural heritage, including a complex chiefly system, iconic stone money, customs, and dance performances.
Outer islanders are renowned navigators who travel vast ocean distances without modern instruments, relying on stars, winds, and currents. The island also offers pristine nature, including marine life (like the famous “Manta Road”) and mangrove forests.
